When it comes to keeping up with competition in regards to the development of electric and hybrid vehicles, Kia has decided it really needs to step up its game. In order to do so it is introducing its first mass produced all-electric model: the Kia Soul EV. It is scheduled to make its way to dealerships like Lancaster Kia sometime in early 2014, and we couldn't be more excited.
The automaker is also busy producing an electric version of the Kia Soul MPV set for release early next year. According to a report from Kia World, this is a follow-up to the limited run of the Kia Ray EV designed specifically for South Korean government fleets.
What's special about the Kia Soul EV, is that it will have a global presence rather than remaining exclusive to its home market of Korea. In addition to launching in the U.S., it will be introduced to Europe and China as well. Drivers can also expect to enjoy a better performance and improved charging efficiency when compared to the Ray EV model.
Taking a closer look at the specific details, the Kia Soul EV will offer a driving range of about 124 miles when fully charged. It will also be able to accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in under 12 seconds. This is quite impressive for an all-electric vehicle and a total of 4 seconds faster than the Ray EV.
In terms of pricing, sources are indicating that in Korea the model is estimated to be about $35,000. When it makes its way to the U.S. we can expect the price will be somewhere in this range. We'll be sure to keep you updated right here on our blog as more details are released so you'll know what to expect. Until then, we encourage all of you in the greater Lancaster, PA area to come check out what our new Kia inventory has to offer. We look forward to seeing you soon!
